How exactly does the BMW Steptronic work?

June 15th, 2009

BMW I am looking into the new 2008 BMW 135i. But I’m a little confused with the steptronic transmission. With the steptronic transmission option, is the car at all like a manual car (i.e clutch, manual shifting without using the steering wheel)? My friend had a 2003 BMW 330Li that was an automatic, but had the Tiptronic so he COULD shift manually if he wanted to. Is the new BMW 135i going to be an automatic first, manual second? I want a standard manual car with the OPTION to use the steering wheel to shift (without the clutch), but I want it to be a manual car First. And what is the difference between Tiptronic and Steptronic? Thanks.

How do you turn off Tire pressure light on BMW 325i?

June 15th, 2009

BMW The tire pressure indicator on my 2006 BMW 325i is on. The tire pressure is good, but I can’t figure out how to turn off the indicator. The manual says there is a button to push, but I don’t see that button. Is there another way of doing it myself?

What year and series BMW would make a good first car?

June 13th, 2009

BMW I am looking to get a BMW soon, and I have heard good things about the E30 and E36s. Both being from the 90s, they would be in my price range.

Which year and series BMW would make a good first car, when taking into account reliability, and cost.

Also, how many miles should I look for on it?

How does the maintenance differ on a BMW than on a Ford or GM?

June 10th, 2009

BMW I want to buy a 1997 BMW 318i but I am a home mechanic and have no trouble working on my Ford’s or GM’s. I am wondering what the difference is and if i could work on my own BMW. I don’t want to do any major motor work just the basics. Example: Starter, Oil changes, Alternator, Tune up. What are some of the differences or obsticals i can come to expect. Is it an easy transition?

How much does is cost to maintain an 1999 Audi A4 ?

May 27th, 2009

Audi I am trying to finance a car, just graduated from college. Honestly anyone know how much it would be to maintain a 1999 Audi Quattro A4? It has a 100,000 miles on it and is being sold for $5,995. Is this a good car to buy and drive, or would I be paying an arm and a leg to keep it serviced?
