I have a 1997 Ford Mustang, I want to know if the water pump is housed in the timing cover?

My timing cover gasket is leaking coolant, I would like to know if the water pump is housed in this area in the 1997 Ford Mustang? I would appreciate the help.

It sounds like it…but go to the nearest auto parts store and find the book on that model for repair…some will even print the page for you…good luck

    Which motor…V8, 6 or 4 banger?

Since you didn’t say GT or V8 and because there is no 4-cylinder ‘97 Mustang, I’m going to assume you’ve got a 3.8L V6.

If that’s the case, the answer is yes. The timing cover is installed first, and it is essentially the backing plate for the water pump. The water pump is installed onto it, and the coolant must flow through ports in the timing cover to get to the rest of the engine.

Hope this helps, and good luck.
