How many years can someone face if they steal a car or car parts?

If someone stole a car and took it’s parts, how many years would this person face – on average?

That depends on the jurisdiction that you are in.
If you steal a car, you will do a lot more time than if you just steal car parts. To steal a car is called Grand Theft Auto. To steal parts is either grand larceny or petty larceny, depending on their value.

These days? They probably wouldn’t spend a single day in prison.

there is no real average for this crime as it has many factors that govern sentencing. if the car was taken during the commission of another crime, if you have prior convictions, was the car taken while the owner occupied the car, etc. If you average the time it usually comes out to about five to ten years in a state facility.
